Abstract
The reception of Rubén Darío¿s literature and the opinions of literary critics from the Nicaraguan¿s early years to the mid twentieth century was not always characterised by an understanding of the poet and his works. An objective review of the subject means recovering not only the voices of praise from the likes of Juan Valera, the Machado brothers, Federico García Lorca and Pablo Neruda, but also the contrary views of figures such as José Asunción Silva, Maurice Bowra, Luis Cernuda or Gastón Baquero, who drew attention to negative aspects in Darío¿s poetic world.
