Resumo

This article deals with the encounter between Spanish and American culture at the beginning of the twentieth century, during the background of "the crisis of the turn of the century" and the imposition of the model of Anglo-Saxon positivism which had a significant impact on two contemporary types of literature, Modernism and Generation of 98, not so contradictory as may be assumed. Through authors such as Rubén Darío, Rodó, Unamuno, or Alfonso Reyes one can study the forming of the sensitivity of the Pan-hispanic thought on both sides of the ocean and the development and evolution of the concept of the Hispanic world, between the period of the start of the century up until the Spanish Civil War
