Zusammenfassung
Tsunamis, the large, extraordinary waves typically associated to earthquakes, flood the coastal areas provoking erosion and morphological changes, but also sediment transport and deposition on barrier islands, spit bars, estuaries, and coastal cliffs. The effects and resulting deposits depend on several factors that are reviewed. The Spanish coasts are not usually struck by large tsunamis, but there exists a long historical record of such events. This paper presents examples of tsunamigenic deposits of Holocene (18th Century AC and 3rd Century BC) and Pleistocene ages in the Iberian Peninsula and Canary Islands.
