Resumen

Despite the considerable evidence accumulated on the effects of media violence, there still is a controversy on this topic which is mirrored in the popular media. The scientific community is still debating on the influence that TV and video games exert on people's behavior (see, for example, Kids, TV viewing, and aggressive behavior, Science (Letters) 297, 49-50, 2002). Those who oppose the influencing role of TV and video games on aggressive behavior claim that causality cannot be easily established since violent individuals will be more likely to watch aggressive acts on TV and perform them in video games. The present study (with a sample size of 2322) on preadolescents and adolescents students, try to clarify some aspects of both views introducing new variables as time devoted to homework and extracurricular reading and personality traits as impulsivity or sensitivity to noise. In addition we study the personal and subjective opinions of the students about the aggression in different contexts and possible solutions.
