Abstract

Alfonso de Cartagena’s relationship with the early 15th Century Portuguese culture does not work one way, that is, starting from him and reaching out to the Royal Family and Portuguese intellectuals alike, but rather both ways, as mentioned and back. This paper explores the first aspect, thus highlighting how Infante D. Duarte’s (1391-1438) (later on, King of Portugal) ideas on moral philosophy as well as on translation in general found its most likely inspiration in Alfonso de Cartagena’s writings and conversations.
