Resum

During Tardi-Hercynian time, central Iberia constituted a Basin & Range-type extensional province with detachment faults (DOBLAS, M., 1987). However, two types of antithetic dislocations observed in this region are not satisfactorily explained, neither by the WERNICKE, B. P. (1981a, 1985) model, nor by similar regional intepretations till now suggested. We propose a variation of the WERNICKE, B. P. (1981a, 1985) scheme (for its final evolution through tectonic denudation and upward arching), in order to account for these atypical dislocations. Under these final brittle conditions, the prevailing crustal high flexural rigidity will trigger the antithetic breakdown of the detachment surfaces. We will further discuss the implications of this model, which hinter both on a modification of the classical model, and on a reappraisal of different regional data.
