Abstract
Due to the V Centenary of the death of Vicente Yáñez Pinzón, discoverer of Brazil, this article presents the expansion and settlement of Spain in that region. Since the time of the letter by Juan de la Cosa up to the proposal of Pinsonia, a new State that finally was not established, Spanish explorers descended the Amazonas, leaving geographic descriptions and maps which would became the roots what Brazil is nowadays.
