La incidencia de las transferencias del gobierno en la distribución de la renta en Estados Unidos: 1981-2000

Resumen

El trabajo trata de evaluar la influencia redistributiva que han ejercido las transferencias públicas realizadas bajo las cinco administraciones que han gobernado en EE.UU. en el periodo 1980-2000. Tras repasar la literatura reciente sobre el tema, se definen dos conceptos de Renta Doméstica que permiten distinguir entre los Ingresos Propios y las transferencias aportadas por el gobierno. A continuación, se examina el aumento de la desigualdad en la distribución de ambos tipos de renta y su relación con el crecimiento económico durante el período. Después se analiza la composición y el reparto de las transferencias para valorar su incidencia en la Renta Doméstica. La conclusión principal del análisis es que las transferencias mantienen una función redistributiva, pero ésta ha disminuido y, además, debido a los cambios en su reparto, esas transferencias han contribuido al aumento de la desigualdad en la distribución de los Ingresos Totales de los Hogares.
