Abstract

The United Nations has been promoting gender equality and women's rights since 1975, which declared the International Year of Women. Since that year, a number of entities have been established dedicated to the economic development of women UNIFEM, female training and training INSTRAW, and the monitoring of all forms of discrimination against women CEDAW. In addition, they have promoted a series of international summits for women's rights in which member states have made a number of commitments. The last of these summits, in Beijing, developed a Platform for Action highlighting the importance of promoting and supporting women's political participation at all levels. Since 2011, with the creation of UN Women, all UN efforts and resources for gender equality or women's empowerment are reunited.
