Resumen

The "Rosa SepúIveda Limestone" is currently exploited from several quarries in the southeastern part of the Segovia province and it has been used for centuries as a construction stone in the region. The La Granja Palace is one of the most outstanding buildings made with this rock, which consists of bioclastic limestone of Late Cretaceous age (Coniacian-Santonian). Its petrophysical properties are in the same range of other porous limestones currently marketed in Spain. Both water absorption response and mechanical behaviour are quite acceptable for construction purposes. Ice resistance of the rock can be qualified as optimum.
