Twenty years after Dayton Agreement, a great deal still has to be done when it comes to nation-building in Bosnia-Herzegovina. However, remarkable progresses have been made in Defence Sector reform, which is been led by NATO and is aimed to a future integration of BiH in this organization. As a part or that reform, the armed forces of BiH have become an institution highly appreciated by citizens. Nevertheless, pushing BiH in the way of NATO membership is a course of action with no prospect of short-term success. Moreover, that endeavour may lead to a failure of two decades of hard cooperative work. In order to neutralize risks and take advantage of opportunities, a new design of the international community efforts is necessary. In such scenario Spain could play a prominent role, which would be consistent with the support given in the past to the country.
