It is the purpose of this article to present an analysis of the presence of death, treated in its mythical dimension, in the novels Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo and Opio en las nubes by Rafael Chaparro Madiedo. The study presented here is not part of a comparative exploration among them, but rather of the way in which the concept has evolved in Latin-American literature regarding the vision of the universe resulting from the syncretism between pre-Christian and Christian cultures. Likewise, an approximation to their fantastic elements will be offered given their relevance.
