Abstract
In the introduction of our work we display in condensed form an overview of the foundation, the development and the present situation of the province Teutonia of the Order of Preachers and some of its most representative figures. In the following part we analyze some of the most important philosophical and cultural contributions of the Teutonia in relation to the German Scholasticism and Mysticism paying special attention to the deep impact on the burgeoning of the vernacular language. Then we focus on three particular translation problems: the translation as informative summary in Der Tugenden Buch; the use of translation strategies by Heinrich Seuse in his defense of Master Eckhart (which is an early example for ideological manipulation by the means of translation) and the importance of Basel as a centre for translation among the Dominicans.
