Abstract
This paper surveys the main hypotheses on the question of whether or not trade integration favors real convergence between the countries involved. It concludes that the issue has not been resolved at the theoretical level and that further empirical analysis is therefore necessary. On this basis, the paper examines the trade adjustment ofthe Spanish economy since Spain's entry into the European Union, drawing certain conclusions as to its impact on the country's real convergence with the EU.
