Abstract
The use of comparisons in History is a resort known from the very begining of its West shape, but it never got as a useful practice. The pursuit of a 'scientific' status in History took from Durkheim's sociology a new stimulus with the comparative method used as a substitute of real experimentation, and valued also in Humanities, such as Philology. The inadequacies of the comparative method in History are not as different of those in Social Sciences as Anthropology or Political Science.
