Abstract

Alpine structures located at the Spanish Central System northern border correspond to fold and faults involving both basement and a mesozoic-cainozoic sedimentary cover. Geological and structural field data were used to determine the main features of the alpine deformation present in the sedimentary cover by means of the application of basement-involved compressive structure models. These models were developed for different authors in areas of similar tectonic features. The solutions obtained by the different models are similar in relation to the predicted fault geometry for these structures, as well as their mechanism of formation. However, differences arise for the type of deformation induced in the basement, and field data are not enough to discriminate between the models. Local stratigraphy seems to play an important role in controlling the final fold geometry.
