Abstract
Teacher training develops all through professional life. The present crisis of the educational systems requires developing teachers in all dimensions of their personality. The approach of a competence-based model in curriculum offers opportunities for the development of the professional competence of the educator, and specifically of its cognitive dimension. The present situation in Spain of redefining primary and secondary school teacher requirements and the process of the European Higher Education Area [EHEA] offer opportunities to elaborate curricula oriented to generate cognitive competence in relation to the students, the educational organization, the family and culture.
