Abstract
In this report, a historical review of the concept of psychopathy is carried out, going from its first clinical descriptions to the current diagnostic criteria. Questions such as the terminological confusion, the comparison made by some authors of the psychopath and the delinquent, or the problem about whether personality disorders are the extreme dimensions of the” normal” personality or whether they meet the requirements to be classified as true clinical categories are discussed. Lastly, some verdicts of Spanish courts on the legal responsibility of the psychopath are reviewed.
