Résumé

The sculptor Ángel Ferrant (Madrid, 1890-1961) was during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) the accidental Director of the Museo de Arte Moderno, President of the Sección del Tesoro Artístico of the Consejo Central de Archivos, Bibliotecas y Tesoro Artístico, and member of the Junta Delegada del Tesoro Artístico de Madrid, of which he became President between January and September of 1938. In this text the author analyses certain little-known biographical episodes (such as his arrest by the Republican Servicio de Investigación Militar toward the end of May 1937 and his surprising trip to Barcelona in April 1938), and in particular his contributions to the defense of Spanish cultural heritage.
