Abstract
Current interest on seaweed biogeography is described. Spanish research on such a topic is briefly surveyed. Also, the choice of the biogeography of benthic marine algae as the main theme for the Algological Section of the VII Spanish National Symposium of Cryptogamic Botany is explained.
