Abstract

The present work reviewed recent findings and examined some questions concerning the implications of organ transplantation in childhood to the family relationships. Pediatric organ transplantation is a procedure that can disestablish family functioning and can influence the child adaptation and coping with the disease and treatment. The reviewed studies showed that important changes in family relationships can happen when a child needs organ transplantation, especially enhance in parental stress and overprotection behavior with child. Currently there are few studies on the topic, but despite that, evidences showed that family functioning and parents mental health status are important aspects that influence the child psychological well-being.
