Abstract

An ever growing plastic wastes generation together with an increasingly restrictive legislation have caused new treatment alternatives to be investigated, apart from the well known energy-recovery incineration and mechanical recycling processes. Chemical treatments are a promising alternative which allows reducing disposal rates as well as obtaining raw materials for chemical industry or fuels. This paper reviews the different possibilities for chemical valorization of waste plastics, including the main industrial processes.
