Dos aproximaciones distintas a la identidad con el Análisis de Pertenencia Categorial

Zusammenfassung

This paper offers information in Spanish about Membership Categorization Analysis (MCA). It starts with a survey of the method’s ethnomethodological historic origins. Then it presents a mapping of some of the major MCA concepts, a table that defines them, followed by a description of how this type of analysis is done. Two MCA examples are then developed. The first uses a more orthodox approach to show how the category of first generation college student is used in higher education. After a description of the Manchester School MCA approach, the second example traces emotions that arise when people use information and communication technologies (ICTs). The conclusion stresses the importance of having clear research objectives given MCA’s focus on in situ interactions.
