Abstract

The second location of Ochthephilus flexuosus species (Staphylinidae, Oxytelinae) for the fauna of Spain is presented, with the study of a male specimen collected on the banks of river Nela (tributary of Ebro river) between Escanduso and Tubilla in the province of Burgos (Spain). The specimen was found in otter Lutra lutra (Linnaeus, 1758) spraints, which were dominated by remains of signal crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus (Dana, 1852) and where nine copies of Proteinus atomarius Erichson, 1840 (Proteininae) were also collected, as well as a copy of Omalium rivulare (Paykull, 1789) (Omaliinae), both new records for Burgos. Distribution is represented in the Iberian Peninsula. Photographs of the specimen and its most typical characteristics are included. Ecologically it is considered an extremely rare species and it presents stenotope behaviors, living in hygrophile, riparian habitats and waders. For these reasons it should be included in the EN (endangered) IUCN category, as it occupies watercourses which are strongly altered by human being
