The behaviour of several metals and alloys as substrates for high temperature superconducting films obtained via electrodeposi-tion techniques has been studied. After a thermal treatment at 900 °C in air, AISI 304 and AISI 310 alloys showed intergrain corro-sion due to carbide precipitation along the grain boundary. As a consequence, the surface of these alloys presented a poor quality for the adherence of the electrodeposited film. In the case of an INCONEL 601 alloy, when oxidised in air at 900 °C, the chromium oxide formed over the surface furnishes impurities to the electrodeposited thick film. In principle, in the case of a copper substra-te, the copper oxide formed on the surface after the thermal treatment (Cu-O) prevents the connectivity between grains and, as result, prevents the connectivity through the film. In the last substrate studied, silver, we have found the best results.
