Abstract
Systolic blood pressure (SBP), dyastolic blood pressure (DBP) and heart rate (HR) variations were studied in 23 patients, of both sexes, under periodontal treatment without associated systemic disorders. Results have shown a HR statistically significant increase (P< 0,01), before oral probe, during the first visit. Moreover, a higher increase on HR was observed in female than in male during oral probe. The differences reached statistical significance (P<0,05). A statistical significant SBP increase was reported in male when compared with female, after root planing (P< 0,05), during local anesthesia (P< 0,05), and during periodontal surgery (P<0,01). Anxiety and fear, caused by the first interview with the stomatologist, are enphasized.
