Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to analyse the notion of transcendental subjectivity in the light of totality of Husserl´s work; we would like to take a critical stance toward the traditional interpretation of this term, associated with a very particular reading of Ideas I. We argue that the latter exposition is partial and also influenced by different factors, both external and internal to Husserlian philosophy. Against the conception that Husserlian project of phenomenology was not unitary (and that there was a New Husserl), we raise the thesis that the careful analysis of the notion of the transcendental enables us to conceive his philosophy as a coherent whole, which stems from a particular practical and ethical concern and which is still valid to confront contemporary challenges in philosophy.
