Abstract

The poetry of all times uses as metaphors of some human characteristics several properties or aspects of plants. It is not uncommon to find that the flush of the cheeks can be defined as the color of the petals of a rose. Baroque poetry in general and Góngora in particular use these resources with enormous prodigality but, in Góngora's poetry, the vegetal metaphor often acquires a functional value that has a clear scientific basis.
