Abstract

Telecommunications today occupy their own space in the history of communication. Since the appearance of electric telegraphy to our days, they have promoted the development of a growing industry and a booming market. According to the most recent estimates, the contribution of ICT to Spanish GDP would be, depending on sources, between 4 and 5%. The vertiginous advance of the technology, nevertheless, has supposed the obsolescence, if not the disappearance, of resources previously necessary. Such is the case, in which we are concerned, of the so-called insulators, both telegraph and telephone, whose production is now confined to the transport of electricity. Those indispensable post and cable auxiliaries, their designers and manufacturers, are called to be relegated to the field of collecting in the greatest indifference. There has been little interest in both writers and historians, and no more attention has been paid to the small number of companies dedicated to this activity or their heirs. This communication responds to the desire to provide a diachronic contribution, the result of a documentary and field research, on this issue that played an essential role in wire communications.
