Resumen

Rainfall data and historical flood record give us further information about meteorological features who cause intense rainfall in Cartagena (Murcia) area. The convective systems are the main responsible of floods in ramblas, these phenomena usually appears on early-medium fall. The seasonal historical flood distribution point out an unimodaI curve centered on fall months. Mostly floods are on this period and show the convective systems like the main one responsible. One of the most hazardous areas in Cartagena city is a marsh called Almarjal an Arabic name. This site have been flooded historically and in recent times dried and used like urban area. The inefficient drainage causes flooding in neighborhoods. Daily rainfall has been used in order to obtain return periods. The distribution function selected was the SQRT-ET max because give us a best fit in extreme events. Historical flooding record was compared with rainfall events and obtained the average rainfall who cause flooding in Cartagena. This relationship has no accuracy and shows us the necessity of further studies of rainfall intensity.
