Abstract

The landscape of today's central Iberian Peninsula was shaped by ongoing tectonic activity since the Tertiary. Spectral analysis and subenvelope map let us to decipher some morfostructural features of central Iberian Peninsula. NE-SO wavelength predominate although when wavelength shorter than 50 km show the existence of NO-SE ondulations corresponding with variscan structures. Subenvelope pattern let to differentiate three zones: Cordilleran zones related to mountainous ranges, platform zones associated with smoother relief and incision zones related to incised valleys. The first one is characterized by a non-balanced hydric regimen and a great erosional power capacity whereas platform zones exhibit a balanced hydric regimen. The map shows the existence of a change from old planation surfaces in the eastern parts of the Tajo and Guadiana basins towards incision zones in the west part.
