Abstract

This article on the Alcázar of Córdoba addresses the following aspects: the installation of the first Emir Omeya, ´Abd al-Raḥmān I (in 756 A.D.), closely linking his Dynasty with his Qaṣr al-Jilāfa, or «Alcázar del Califato», by reference to the dynastic succession (al-jilāfa), as a fundamental element of identity, legitimacy and greatness. Passages of these texts are selected and commented on several of those palatine spaces: the Roof (Azotea: assuṭayḥa), «Funeral Garden» (Rawḍa), and the Gate of al-Sudda. A careful reading of these passages and new comments allows us to advance in our knowledge of the Alcázar de Córdoba.
