Resum

Iran aims to establish a series of communication land routes to the West, allowing it to extend its influence in a region where its natural geopolitical tendency is to continuously expand. Iran's pretensions intersect with the interests of numerous States and non-States and regional and global actors, which could fuel the conflicts currently raging in the region. The way in which the different actors play the game of this «Levantine chess» will determine who will turn out to be the future regional leaders. Therefore, global powers will gain or lose strength depending on how their long-term strategies are played. The Iranians stand out amongst all these actors, as they have the advantage of understanding relations in a region where sectarianism cuts across permeable state borders.
