Abstract

The so-called “Permian Forest of the Sierra de Aragoncillo” is a paleontological site of international relevance included in the Spanish Global Geosites list and located within the UNESCO Global Geopark of Molina-Alto Tajo. Known for decades, has suffered an important plunder that continues today. The site occupies an extensive area with scattered and semi-buried remains of petrified logs and palaeoflora. To tackle the protection of the site and stop the looting, it is necessary to define its boundaries, characterize the area and identify conservation threats. To this end, the use of a drone and a set of cartographic techniques have been used, to carry out an integrated recognition of the territory through a geographic information system.
