Resumo
The purpose of this research is to study sexual dimorphism in dress and its impact on the promotion of gender inequality. Differentiated clothing reaches its culmination in the XIX century when sumptuary laws were abolished in the French Revolution, but the only requirement is to dress according to sex, to prevent women from access to trousers. The thesis of this paper is that appearance is a key element for equality and aims to show its role as oppressor (corset and crinoline) or releasing (trousers) for women.
