Resumen

In this work we estimated site effects at a regional scale in an area with significant seismic activity as Murcia Region (SE Spain). Two different methodologies were applied, the first uses the relationship between the geotechnical features of the geological materials and the shear-wave velocity in the upper 30 m (vs 30), and the second uses a correlation among topography and the vs 30 . Regional maps derived from both methods show quantitatively different degrees of seismic amplification in the Murcia Region. The obtained maps by both methods have a similarity very close to 50%. However, the methodology based on the topography provides lower seismic amplification values than obtained from the method based on surface geology. In this regard, the estimation of factors of amplification by means of the surface geology at a 1:50,000 scale provides more accurate results, although more conservative.
