Zusammenfassung
The Alhama de Murcia fault (FAM) is a major fault located in the SE Betic Range. It records seismic activity all over its length except in the Puerto Lumbreras-Lorca Segment (SPL) where seismicity is almost absent. The Puerto Lumbreras-Lorca Segment is characterized by the presence of a complex shear zone where a significant thickness of clay-rich fault rock (fault gouge) is developed. This fault gouge and the materials included in the shear zone display textures that are typical of ductile fault rocks. However the micro-tectonic study of the fault gouge reveals that it was formed under a brittle regime. For this reason, textural and microstructural studies of the fault gouge are very important to understand the SPL seismotectonic behavior and how it could accommodate deformation by aseismic creep.
