Abstract
This study Jooks at the ways in which ltalian and Spanish religious beliefs concerning God, priests, friars, monks and nuns are reflected in their Janguage through proverbs and sayings. It also addresses the equivalence problems of verifying differences and similarities between the two languages from the viewpoint of expressing beliefs and opinions about religion, taking into account the socio-cultural dimension that allows us to grasp the religious or even anticlerical undercurrent in them. Where the same expression is found in both languages, we will examine what type of equivalence exists.
