Zusammenfassung
The present paper reviews the concept of the generic medicinal product from different points of view. First, the generic is legally defined and afterwards the concepts of prescribability, interchangeability and substitution policies are presented, pointing out the existing differences in the main developed countries. The measures to protect innovation are explained and finally, the guarantees and other technical aspects of the generic medicinal products are described, refuting some existing myths with regard to these medicines.
