Resumen
In recent decades many analyses and maps on natural hazards and risks have been produced and published, but there are few methodological proposals that allow the analysis of the techniques and procedures that were used in the past and are nowadays applied to obtain these products. This paper proposes the use of a simple tool for the calibration and validation of hazard and risk analyses and maps: the description of the places where recent events have taken place, after completion of studies. In a simple way natural hazards are observed and analyzed, taking notes about where they have taken place; and their comparisons regarding how hazard or risk areas were categorized in cartography, drawing conclusions about the quality of the maps produced. Two different cases studies have been used to show and put into practice this methodological proposal: on one hand, a local study about mass movements’ hazard in Segovia; and, on the other hand, a regional flood risk map in Castilla-La Mancha
