Abstract
The work constitutes a first approach to the relationships that are established between the implementation of a basic air transport system (general aviation), based on airfields, and the occupation of the Amazonian territory. To this end, the cases of the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Pará are studied. Evidences show that the uses and purposes of the airfields identified are variegated, including those whose primary purpose is an economic activity that involves a high impact on forest mass (agriculture, mining, logging). Other activities have also been recognized, which fall within parameters of doubtful legality. Nevertheless, the presence of a basic air transport system also can be seen as an opportunity for the development and the protection of the human and environmental rights.
