Abstract

The current study was conducted in order to check the effects of size (twelve or six) and decision rule (unanimity or majority) in the jurors' social interaction during deliberation. Social interaction was analyzed by using the Interaction Process Analysis of Bales. We also tested whether these variations affected jurors' participation. We found a different interaction process in larger-sized juries: the six-member juries involved much more verbal interaction. We found no significant differences between juries with different decision rules.
