Abstract

Yields and growth analysis of fodder bitter vetch were studied under low rainfall conditions in a series of triáis sown in three succesive years. Plants were harvested at seven stages from very early growth to mature pods. The highest yields were obtained from cuts taken between the beginning of pod formation and the full pod formation stage (6.164; 4.391 and 7.455 kg matter/ha for each three years, resspectively). Yields were affected (P < 0.01) by environmental condicions and the variations in annual rainfall could explain a significant fraction of the variation in DM yield.
