Abstract
A field trial has been carried out in order to compare the yields, chemical composition (crude protein, ether extract, ash, neutral and acid detergent fiber, cellulose, and lignin) and digestibility of V. sativa L. and V. villosa Roth. at four different stages of growth. The yields were higher for V. sativa than for V. villosa and both species gave the highest yields at the full flowering stage. Chemical composition and digestibility were significantly different (P < 0,01). The greatest differences were at the early and full flowering stages, although those were probably due to the fact of the presence of legumes in V. sativa in the named stages
