Abstract
Maurice Maeterlinck’s work (1862-1949) covers an extended period that starts at the beginning of his youth and continues until his death. After an initial stage in which silence, mistery and upwards aspiration dominate his works, the author will open a way towards clarity and light, as we can see in plays like, for example, The blue bird. This paper aims to study how this second step, despite remaining full of symbolism and inner significance, will open the doors to a world where the oppressive environment gives way to freedom and light. For this, we will take concepts and ideas of same neoplatonic philosophers who strongly influenced Maeterlinck’s theatre.
