Abstract
Head leaching of precious metals has become one of the most used metallurgical treatments to extract gold and silver at low costs. However, whenever a head leaching operation is going to be planned, ore mineralogy becomes paramount. This paper reviews the most relevant characteristics of this metallurgical process, and the different problems that can be caused by some minerals of the ore and gangue, and their textural intergrowths.
