Abstract

Hispanic medieval romance poetry is well represented in the music of the so-called ‘dark scene’. This article explores the aesthetic and musical reasons behind Hispanic medieval romance poetry’s ability to overcome chronological, geographical and linguistic barriers and reach the contemporary, international and, for the most part, non-Spanish-speaking audience of the dark scene.
