Resumen

La crisis política institucional se postula como el gran riesgo de las sociedades del siglo XXI. La inestabilidad de la democracia, el incremento de la desinformación en los procesos electorales y la desconfianza de la ciudadanía son hechos que constatan estudios como The Economist Intelligence Unit (2018) o Freedom in the World (2018). En el contexto de las últimas elecciones de EUA (3-nov-2020), el presidente Donald Trump activó un discurso centrado en la denuncia de fraude electoral que movilizó a las masas y culminó con el asalto al Capitolio. En paralelo, Twitteravaló el papel del periodismo (@ABC, @AP, @CBSNews, @CNN, @FoxNews, @NBCNews, @Reuters) como gatekeeper de la mentira en la Red. El objetivo es conocer cómo tratan los medios el proceso electoral desde sus cuentas de Twitter, analizar qué estrategias siguen para combatir la falacia de Trump y comprobar en qué medida contribuyen o no a la difusión de la teoría de la conspiración. Sobre una muestra general de tweets (n1=3.577), aplicamos un análisis de contenido comparado de triple enfoque (cuantitativo-cualitativo-discursivo) basado en el uso de indicadores de palabras clave (n2=34.430). Los resultados confirman que los medios ofrecen contenidos contrastados sobre el proceso electoral, recurren a fuentes diversas y evitan reproducir el discurso de deslegitimación de Donald Trump. En general, comparten una lucha contra la teoría de fraude electoral, contra la desinformación y contra la polarización de la ciudadanía, factores que han marcado un escenario de duda sobre el futuro de la democracia.
