Abstract

This paper describes the role of normative beliefs in aggression. A sample of 689 males and 692 females, from various High Schools, Vocational Training Centers and Colleges, and ages ranging from 15 to 30 was chosen. In order to measure the level of aggression in a variety of situations, all subjects filled in the Normative Beliefs and Situational Aggressiveness Scale (Andreu et al., 1999), and the Aggression Questionnaire (Buss and Perry, 1992). Results showed that both scales had a good internal consistency and factor structure. Finally, a significant relationship between normative beliefs and aggression was found.
