Abstract

Leonardo Torres Quevedo can be considered the total engineer. Formally, he was only a civil engineer, but his work covered many other engineering fields: Aeronautics, Computing, Naval construction, Mechanics, Telecommunications, etc. Nevertheless, this paper details the beginnings of his career as a railroad engineer and his transition from railways to airways, what he considered “multi-wire aerial roads”: his transbordador as the origin of the cable car for passengers.
